NAC Theatre camp had 34 students this year participating in both acting and theatre tech, a new addition which proved popular.  We are proud to partner with the LampLite Theatre for the second year.

August Artist Spotlight

Meet Dr. Lauren Burrow!

Lauren is a tenured professor in the education department at Stephen F. Austin University and is currently serving the second year of her term as a board member for the Nacogdoches Arts Collaborative. But this married mother of three does more than teach. She’s an enthusiastic volunteer and a performer as well.

Before she received her advanced degrees from the University of Houston and SFA and began her career in education, Lauren earned a BA in theatre arts from Mary Baldwin College in Virginia. A native Houstonian, Lauren served internships with the Alley Theatre and Main Street Theater there. Most recently, she made her stage debut this past spring at the Lamp-Lite Theatre starring as Sandra (who plays Florence) in The Play That Goes Wrong. “It was such a great experience, sharing the camaraderie of being in a show with other actors.”

In the ten years since her family moved to Nacogdoches, Lauren has witnessed great growth in the local arts scene. “It’s extraordinary how Nac seems to be a magnet for artistic people of all kinds. We are close enough to Houston and Dallas to take advantage of the cultural offerings there, but there are plenty of opportunities to create real art and support real artists right here in Nacogdoches. My goal now is to continue to give back to our community and support the NAC’s mission of getting artists paid for their work. There are so many opportunities to volunteer with NAC and boost the arts in Nacogdoches. It’s a win-win for all of us.”
