AUGUST ARTIST SPOTLIGHT!
Meet Joanna Temple!

Joanna is a crack-shot publicist and public relations professional who heads up Renegade Event Management. She has been volunteering with the NAC for several years. Originally from Baton Rouge, her family moved to Houston when she was 11. She has been involved with public relations ever since she ran for student council and won at Spring High School. “I didn’t know what PR was!” she says, laughing. “But I was doing it, and loving it.” Joanna earned a BA from SFA, and much later, earned her MBA there at the age of 56. She’s been involved in creating dozens of successful public events all over the Gulf Coast, almost always working with volunteers. “Once I supervised 350 volunteers for Junior Achievement in Houston, under the auspices of former President George H.W. Bush.”
Locally, she’s the driving force behind the annual Old Town Rig Down, events at Millard’s Crossing, and many others. Her upcoming projects this year include the NAC’s “I Want My ’80s” Arts Ball on October 4 and the Nacopalooza Music Fest and Pub Crawl on November 15, but she won’t be creating them by herself.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of any non-profit. They make things happen. It really does take a village to put on these big events, like the Nacopalooza and the Arts Ball. When you need to raise money for non-profits, it’s all hands on deck. At the NAC, we are always searching for people of all ages and backgrounds who want to participate behind the scenes. All you have to do is sign up, show up and we’ll show you how to promote the event beforehand and get you involved in helping to run the event when it’s on. And what a great way to meet people and make new friends.”
