Funeral services for Mark Edward Birkelbach, 64, of Nacogdoches, will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Laird Funeral Home. Mark passed away on April 16, 2026, in Nacogdoches. He was born on December 4, 1961, in Rusk.

Mark died at his home on April 16th, 2026. A native of Rusk, Tx, he lived in Nacogdoches for the past 16 years. Mark was a Master Mason at The Grand Lodge Euclia No. 45 in Rusk, Tx. Mark worked for the State of Texas as a correction officer prior to attending Stephen F Austin State University where he received his Bachelor’s In Social Work. Mark worked for The Family and Protective Services as a Adult Protective Services Facility Investigator, Supervisor and finally where he found his niche and passion as an Adult Protective Services Evidence Driven Specialist where he spent the last 18 years of his career until he retired in 2025.

Mark was a man of many gifts and talents. First and foremost Mark was a Christian, a giver, helper and had a larger than life personality which could fill the room with laughter along with his thunderous voice. He enjoyed building things, wood carving, singing, playing his guitar, fishing, cruising and traveling. However his best time was spending time with family, friends and especially his many grandchildren where he was known as, “Big Daddy”. The larger than life Gentle Giant. Mark touched so many lives over the course of his life and he will truly be missed by all however he is finally home.

Mark is preceded in death by father, John Elwood Birkelbach of Rusk, Tx.

He is survived by his wife, Amy Birkelbach of Nacogdoches, Tx., mother, Elizabeth Spivey of Lufkin, Tx., son, Adam Birkelbach of Melissa Tx., daughter, Lexi Birkelbach of Nacogdoches, Tx., stepson, Brandon Hardy and wife Monica of Lufkin, Tx., stepdaughter, Meaghan Dolan and husband, Derek Dolan of Douglas, Tx., sister, Elaine Petterson and husband, Tom of Lufkin, Tx., and brother, Michael Birkelbach of Groesbeck, Tx. along with 9 grandchildren,Sutter, Adalyn and Caysen Dolan,  Alarah Stokes, Jay, Selena,Luke, Levi and Landyn Hardy.

Pallbeares: Adam Birkelbach, Brandon Hardy, Jay Hardy, Derek Dolan, Mike Cunningham and Randy C Moore.
