Obituary
Mamie Joyce Sowell Anthony, 88, of Nacogdoches passed away on February 3, 2023. Mamie was born in San Augustine County on September 10, 1934 to the late Levi Sowell and Clarice Murray.
After obtaining her Licensed Vocational Nursing license, she worked in Hemodialysis and Hospice at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for 25 years before retiring in 1997. After retiring Mamie spent her time with grandchildren, crocheting, quilting, making jewelry and caring for her many plants.
Mamie was preceded in death by her eldest son, Joey Anthony, brothers Doug and Donald Sowell, sister Jackie Sowell Vrazel, half-brother Johnny Holloway, her best friend Joy Rains and her parents.
She will be greatly missed by her children and their spouses: Mike and Becky Anthony, Greg and Leah Anthony, Missy and Chris Thomas. Grandchildren and their spouses Allen and Becca Anthony, Justin and Kellie Anthony, Levii and KP Anthony, Cody and Megan Anthony, Blake and Beth Stanaland, Justin and Teresa Thomas, Tyler Anthony, Ryan and Jessica Thomas, Shandi and Lance White. Great grandchildren Allie, Tenslee, Emma, Harper, Robby, Mallory, Everly, Jojo, Cooper, Kinley, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Graveside services, officiated by Reverend Vertis Thacker, will be held at Blackjack Cemetery on County Road 350 in Nacogdoches County on February 9, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hospice Shop in Nacogdoches, an organization Mamie strongly supported. Laird Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
