Shining a Beacon of Hope for Families in Need
In the true spirit of the holiday season, the Family Crisis Center of East Texas proudly presents its cherished Adopt-a-Family program. This heartwarming tradition connects kind-hearted community members with survivors of abuse and their children, who are determined to forge new lives, free from violence.
“For parents and children grappling with abuse, escaping during the holidays can be an overwhelming ordeal,” said Whitney Burran, executive director of the Family Crisis Center of East Texas.
“It often means leaving behind treasured possessions like toys and clothing. Financial abuse may also leave someone unable to provide presents or even basic necessities for their children. Adopting a family is an incredible way to show these survivors that their neighbors stand beside them as they embark on their healing journey toward safety and hope, ” she added.
Individuals, businesses, or groups looking to make a difference can step forward and “adopt” a family currently receiving services at the Family Crisis Center. The agency will provide a personalized list of gifts, selected by the families, along with clothing and shoe sizes for each family member, making the process seamless and meaningful.
The agency requests donations of wrapping paper and supplies for each adopted family, enabling parents to personally wrap the gifts for their children, fostering a sense of inclusion and holiday cheer.
There’s no time to waste—families can be adopted until Thursday, December 5, and unwrapped gifts, along with wrapping supplies, can be dropped off at the agency’s administrative office or any outreach office until Thursday, December 12, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Last year, the East Texas community made Christmas brighter for 80 families in need, a remarkable feat that included a total of 180 children.
