The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (5-5, 0-2) dropped a Saturday afternoon conference match to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (6-4, 1-1) as they lost 67-48 on the road.
SFA got the scoring started in their second conference match of the season thanks to early baskets from Nana Antwi-Boasiako and Chrishawn Christmas to take an early 4-0 lead. Following a short 5-0 Islanders run, Myles Jenkins responded with a 5-0 scoring run by himself as he helped put SFA back in the lead 9-5 five minutes into the first half.
The next five minutes offered consistent back-and-forth scoring from both sides as points from Clayton Southwick, Keon Thompson, and Juhlawnei Stone were offset by the Islanders as SFA still maintained a 17-14 lead halfway through the first half. Following a 6-0 scoring run by Corpus Christi, SFA responded with a 5-0 scoring run of their own thanks to points from Clayton Southwick and Keith Lamar to maintain a 22-20 lead.
The Islanders ended the first half with momentum as they would go on a 12-0 scoring run over the final five minutes of the half to take a 32-22 lead over SFA into halftime.The Islanders opened up the second half with a 4-0 scoring run, however, Clayton Southwick got SFA’s scoring started in the second half with a jumper to keep the Islander’s lead at 36-22. With the Islanders leading 43-24 five minutes into the second, Nana Antwi-Boasiako found his groove offensively as he rattled off eight straight points for SFA to make the score 47-32 Islanders.
At the halfway point of the second half, Corpus still held a 53-34 lead, and with five minutes left in the game, points from Juhlawnei Stone, Dominic Pangonis, and Ethan Mayes were cancelled out by the Islanders as they led 58-40. Clayton Southwick would post a new career-high in points with two minutes remaining as his fifth basket of the day would set a new high in points, however, the Lumberjacks were unable to rally late and fell 67-48 on the road to the Islanders.
