Lumberjacks Defeated by Texans 59-17

STEPHENVILLE, Texas- SFA lost to the Tarleton Texans 59-17 tonight at Memorial Stadium.. 

The Texans received the ball to begin the first half.  Tarleton wasted no time as their opening drive was six plays for 83 yards and a touchdown.  Kayvon Britten’s 14-yard rushing touchdown got the Texans on the board first.  With 12:03 in the first quarter Tarleton led 7-0.

SFA started their first drive with success through the air and on the ground.  After picking up their second first down of the drive the ‘Jacks offense stalled out and turned to Chris Campos who converted a 45-yard field goal.  This kick adds to Campos’ record breaking number. The Texans remained in front 7-3 with 9:48 in the first quarter.

SFA’s offense finally got things going after Jerrell Wimbley and the Lumberjack rushing attack drove down the field for their first score.  His two-yard rushing touchdown closed the Texan lead to 14-10 with 4:09 remaining in the first quarter.  Wimbley now has a rushing touchdown in three consecutive games.

At the end of the first half SFA trailed 32-10.

The Lumberjacks found the endzone once in the second half on a 30-yard touchdown run by Jaylen Jenkins. Jenkins first rushing touchdown of his career lessened the deficit to 59-17.  Jerrell WimbleyAnthony Williams, and Jaylen Jenkins combined for 42 carries, 208 yards (5.0 yds/rush), and two touchdowns.  Kylon Harris finished as the recieving leader for SFA with his seven receptions for 62 yards (8.9 yds/cth).SFA returns to Homer Bryce Stadium next week for their Senior Day matchup against Southern Utah.  The last home game of the season will kick off November 11th at 4:00 p.m.
