Lumberjack Softball Take on Houston Cougars

HOUSTON, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks travel to Houston, Texas, to take on the Houston Cougars. Game one of the double header will take place April 4th at 4:00 p.m., followed by game two at 6:30 p.m.

A Look at The Lumberjacks  

The Lumberjacks are sitting at a 17-15 (6-3 WAC) record, after winning two of their three games against Southern Utah this past weekend.  The Lumberjacks have two players batting over .300.  Mackenzie Bennett has a team leading batting average of .374, along with nine doubles, two triples, seven home runs, and 25 RBIs.  Camryn Middlebrook is batting .318, with seven doubles, two home runs, and three RBIs.  SFA has also had a fantastic offensive contribution from Gaby Garcia.  Garcia is batting .275, along with four doubles, a team leading 27 RBIs, and a team high 12 home runs.  Lexi Benson has been on an impressive run for SFA.  She has a .297 batting average, five doubles, five home runs, and 13 RBIs.On the mound, Alexis Telford, and Brooke Gainous will all look to have strong performances.  Telford has a team leading 2.99 ERA, a team high 59 strikeouts, and a record of 7-7.  Gainous has a 3.57 ERA, along with 32 strikeouts, five shutouts, and a 7-6 record. 

A Look at The Cougars  

The Houston Cougars sit at 15-16, on the year. Turiya Coleman enters the weekend with multiple stats among the best in the NCAA. Nationally, she ranks 24th in hits (43), 33rd in batting average (.439), 43rd in total bases (70) and 48th in on-base percentage (.509). On the mound for the Cougars, Kenna Wilkey has had a stellar start to her season.   Wilkey ranks near the top at 47th in strikeouts (94) and 47th in victories (10). Houston leads The American after two weeks of conference play, the only undefeated team remaining.
