Ladyjacks Dominate Bearkats in Front of Sell-Out Crowd as SFA Celebrates Debbie Humphreys 800th Career Win

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated Sam Houston 3-0 in front of a sellout crowd in Shelton Gym as they opened up the second SFA Tournament.

SFA jumped out to a 6-4 lead in the first set before going on a four-point run to extend the ‘Jacks lead, 10-4. The Ladyjacks continued to pull away from the Bearkats in the first set with a couple three-point mini runs and eventually pulled away with a 25-15 first set victory. The ‘Jacks hit a staggering .485 in the first set with only one attack error. SFA dominated the beginning of the second set as they rattled off eight straight points with three service aces coming from Jayden Flynn. SHSU cut the lead in half, 8-4, but then the ‘Jacks started to pull away again with a 6-3 run to make it 14-7. After a four-point spurt the Ladyjacks extended their lead to 10, 18-8. SFA would finish off the second set on a 7-4 run and take a 25-12 set two victory. The Bearkats were not going away without a fight as they got their first lead of the match early on in the third set. Sam Houston went on a four-point run to take an early 7-4 lead. Points were traded back and forth until the ‘Jacks had their own four-point spurt to tie the set at 13. SFA slowly pulled away in the third set with three seperate three-point runs and won the final set by a score of 25-19.SFA led SHSU in points (60-28), kills (43-22), aces (7-2), blocks (10-4), assists (40-22), digs (58-49), and hitting percentage (.287-.010). WAC Player of the Week, Ielan Bradley led the offensive attack for the ‘Jacks with 14 kills, followed by Camryn Hill with nine and Ariana Pagan with eight. Jayden Flynn led the team with 18 assists, followed by Maddy Bourque with 14. Izabella Ortiz once again led the block party for the ‘Jacks with seven total blocks including three solo. This is her fourth game this season with seven blocks in one match. Haley Hoang led SFA with 23 digs to bring her season total up to 180. Hill and Pagan each recorded 11 digs in this match.

The ‘Jacks will be on the court again Friday, September 15th at 4:00 p.m. for a matchup with the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes.
