Mrs. King passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023 in Nacogdoches.  She was born on February 17, 1949 in Houston.

Judy Juanita Slay King, 74, met her Lord and savior Thursday, December 28, 2023. She was beloved by many family and friends and will be remembered for her gifts of hospitality and friendship. Judy grew up in North Shore, Texas and was a member of the North Shore Scarlet Drill Team. After high school, she was introduced to the love her life, Edward King, by mutual friends, going on a double date at Princess Drive-In where she spilled her Coke in Edward’s ‘64 Pontiac Grande Prix with white interior! This did not deter Edward as they were married a year later at Uvalde Baptist Church in North Shore on October 7, 1967. Judy’s giving spirit was evident through both lean and abundant years. In their early Christmas’s, given Judy’s giving spirit, they took out a simple loan or used S & H green stamps to give gifts. Through the years, they generously shared of themselves and their resources to help others. They were married 56 years starting their mornings on their deck sipping tea and cocoa, watching the flowers grow, squirrels and birds play, and staying in contact with people they loved.

Judy enjoyed serving others through her many hobbies and talents such as cooking, sewing, monogramming and hosting. She also loved gardening, music, photography, reading, and making her home a place welcome to all. In recent years she has greatly enjoyed new friends in her cherished book club. She served many years in her church families and currently served Kid Works at Timber Creek Church greeting children and their families. She made a difference in the lives of hundreds through Hospice of East Texas and Chi Alpha Christian Campus Ministries. Judy served numerous years in the Woden School District in several capacities.

Although Judy vacationed throughout the years with family and long time friends, including motorcycling across the United States, once retired, she and Ed bought a Foretravel motorhome and took up vacationing with like minded friends traveling to many states including Canada and Alaska. Judy served as secretary for a little over a year welcoming new members into the Foretravel Motorcade Club.

Judy is preceded in death by parents William D. and Juanita Slay, brothers Ronnie Slay and Gary Slay, and sister Joyce Fitzhenry. Judy is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Clifton Edward King, one daughter Dana Parkhurst and husband Keith, as well as her son Glynn King. Judy had one grandchild and apple of her eye, Royse Aaron Parkhurst.

Pallbearers for the service are nephews and beloved family members, Kenny King, Clif Ramsey, Bobby Ramirez, Richard King, Robert King, Conrad Mayo, Aubrey and Keith Fitzhenry, as well as her cherished grandson Royse.

The family welcomes flowers or contributions being made to Hospice of East Texas.
