LAS VEGAS, Nev.- California Baptist defeated Stephen F. Austin, 69-64 in the WAC Semifinal matchup. SFA finishes the season with a 26-6 record, while CBU improves to 19-12.
The Ladyjacks jumped out to a 5-0 lead off a layup by Aiyana Johnson and a three-pointer from Jordan Harrison. However, CBU then went on a 10-0 spurt to take the lead. CBU made three more three-pointers and took an 11-point lead going into the quarter break. In the second quarter the Lancers hovered around a double-digit lead until the 4:45 mark when CBU went on a 6-0 scoring run to extend their lead to 17. CBU went into the locker room with a 16-point lead, 40-24. The Lancers held a double-digit lead for most of the second half until the last five and a half minutes of the game. SFA scored five unanswered points to cut the lead to nine. The Ladyjacks continued to fight tooth and nail, but ran out of time as the Lancers move on to the Championship game.
SFA led CBU in a couple of stats categories including; points in the paint (30-28), second chance points (16-6), and free throw percentage (75.9-70.6). WAC Freshman of the Year, Harrison scored a career-high 22 points, followed by 12 points from Kyla Deck. Avery Brittingham led the team in rebounds with seven, Deck and Kurstyn Harden followed with six. Harrison led the team with seven assists, followed by Brittingham and Johnson who each recorded one. Harrison and Brittingham each recorded three steals.
