Obituary
Jerry Arthur Benson, 87 formally of Richmond, Texas passed away on October 27, 2024 in Lufkin, Texas.
Jerry was born on June 5, 1937 in Monroe, Louisiana to Jackson Arthur Benson and Minnie Eugenia Thompson. Jerry spent his childhood years in Beaumont, Texas moving to Shreveport Louisiana his Senior year, graduating from Byrd High School. He met the love of his life, Patsy, while attending Baylor University. They were married for 66 years before her passing just 10 months ago. While at Baylor, Jerry earned his Business degree and cemented his life long love and support for his beloved Bears and all things Baylor. Jerry spent his entire career in the commercial mortgage banking business but everyone who knew him knows that his true love was his family. Dad/PawPaw spent his life caring for and entertaining his wife, 2 daughters, 5 grandkids and 2 great granddaughters. Jerry always had a glass half full attitude and a joke to tell! He was our greatest cheerleader. We are forever grateful for the gift of faith that he instilled in each of us. Mom and Dad enjoyed their time with life long friends made at Bellaire United Methodist Church, Sunrise Beach, Horseshoe Bay and Tiki Island.
Jerry is survived by his daughters: Marlene Kay Sowell (Michael), Lou Ann Fischer, 5 grandchildren: Jacob Springer (Rosa), Austin Springer, Dillon Springer, Bethany Fischer, Maddie Nona and 2 great granddaughters: Ava and Mia Nona. He is also survived by his brother, Jan Benson (Joan), the niece whom he thought of as a daughter, Patti Tourville and numerous other nieces and nephews.
