NACOGDOCHES, Texas: The SFA Lumberjacks take on the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros in a three game set. The Jacks come into the weekend at 22-25 (12-15 WAC) and UTRGV come in at 26-24 (12-14 WAC).

A look at the Lumberjacks:

The Jacks have a lot riding on this series, as a series win would clinch a conference tournament appearance. They are coming off a series loss vs Utah Valley, but they did beat Lamar in their only non-conference game this week. Who else to lead them into the postseason than Alex Rodgers, who has been amazing all season but has upped his game in conference play. Against WAC opponents, Rodgers is hitting .396 with a 1.102 OPS, 24 RBI’s, and 68 total bases, all of which lead the team. He’s also been a threat on the base paths, stealing eight bags in ten attempts. Cole Hill has also been solid in conference, hitting .368 with a .930 OPS. He also leads the team in stolen bases on the year with 14, so he can do it all.

On the mound for the Jacks, the trio of Joe RichterConner Woods, and Cade Stapleton will look to hold down the Vaqueros offense. Richter leads the team with 41 strikeouts, and Woods and Stapleton have both pitched over 50 innings for the Jacks this year. UT Rio Grande Valley has a good offense, so it will be vital for the Jacks to get good performances out of the three of them.

A look at the Vaqueros:

UT Rio Grande Valley boasts an explosive offense, as they have six guys hitting over .300 for the season and conference. Brandon Pimental has been the best the entire year for UTRGV, leading the team in average (.375), OPS (1.080), and home runs (13). Steven Lancia and Roberto Gonzalez have been very good in conference play, and Lucia is second to Pimental with a .330 average, and Gonzalez has 61 total bases, also second to Pimental. The Vaqueros look to have an all around performance this weekend from an offense who has produced all year. On the pitching side, much like the Jacks, UTRGV has three guys they rely on. Angelo Cabral, Colton Davis, and Jesus Aldaz have been the guys this year, and they have been solid. Cabral has a very good 3.39 ERA, with Davis not too far behind with a 3.80 ERA. Aldaz leads the team with a .208 opponent batting average. They will look to keep their team in the ballgame this weekend in Nacogdoches.
