Jacks get an SEC Victory on Day 2 of the Cowgirl Classic

LAKE CHARLES, La.- SFA splits their two contests in the Cowgirl Classic, defeating SEC opponent Ole Miss in Game One, 3-1 and falling to McNeese 5-4 in Game Two. SFA moves to 7-9 on the season with the results while Ole Miss moves to 7-5, and McNeese moves to 10-4.

Game One
Alexis Telford was the star on the mound for the ‘Jacks. Allowing only one earned run with six strikeouts on the day going the full game. Alexis is now at 41 strikeouts, continuing to lead the WAC after today’s performance. 

SFA would score first in the top of the second on a 2-run RBI double from Camryn Middlebrook that brought in Mallory Webb and Lexi Benson. Ole Miss would respond gaining their only run of the game on a hit-by-the-pitch with the bases loaded. Lumberjacks would respond in the top of the 4th with a RBI double from Mikaelah Burkland that brought home Middlebrook. Telford would gain two of her six strikeouts the rest of the way holding Ole Miss to only 2 hits, her new season low.

Nguyen led the team with two hits and two stolen bases. Middlebrook, Burkland, Emily Berryhill and Emily Land each recorded a hit. Middlebrook recorded two RBIs and Burkland recorded one. Burkland also hit a double and Berryhill hit a triple. 

Game Two
In the second battle with McNesse in the Cowgirl Classic, a huge day in the batters box from Gaby Garcia wasn’t enough to carry the ‘Jacks over the Cowgirls.

McNeese got the game started quickly, scoring two RBI’s one of them a triple. SFA would respond back in the third with three-run homerun out to center field from Garcia that brought home Madison Nguyen and Emily Berryhill. Gaby currently leads SFA in home runs and RBI’s with 4 and 11 respectively. Cowgirls answered back with a RBI single to tie up the contest heading into the 4th. Garcia wouldn’t be down bringing in the scoring for SFA, having a groundout RBI the brought home Sydney Carithers, and the ‘Jacks last run of the day. McNesse would score two more run the rest of the way and take the 5-4 over the ‘Jacks.

Berryhill and Carithers each led the team with two hits, followed by five other Lumberjacks who each recorded one. Garcia recorded every RBI in this game and hit a home run, and Carithers hit a double.
