Illinois man in custody in 18-wheeler pursuit

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas – An Illinois man who led law enforcement on a chase in an 18-wheeler was taken into custody Monday.
At 10:48 a.m., Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to assist in stopping a truck driver who’d refused to pull over at the request of the company he worked for. The driver, identified as Ed Solomon, 61, of Sun River Terrace, Ill., was headed north on U.S. 259. Nacogdoches Police Department officers initially began pursuing Solomon, and Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office deputies joined in as he continued driving through Nacogdoches, into Central Heights and towards Rusk County. The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office was notified, and deputies were able to deploy spike strips along a portion of the highway near CR 140 ahead of the vehicle, which succeeded in puncturing several of the truck’s tires, bringing the pursuit to an end. Deputies took Solomon into custody without further incident, and EMS was called to asses Solomon’s health before he was taken to the county jail, where he was charged with a state-jail felony for evading arrest.
