The Inspection Services Department carries out the general health & safety inspections of occupancies requiring a health permit within the jurisdiction of the City of Nacogdoches. The primary function of the Health Inspector is the interpretation, inspection and field compliance efforts of the technical codes and laws. These codes and laws are Federal, State and Local. In addition the Health Inspector with support from the Inspection Services Department carries out the responsibility of data entry, account billing and record keeping.

NACOGDOCHES — Local restaurants, grocery stores, schools and food trucks received their latest round of health department visits for the week of April 3, 2026, with most facilities earning passing marks and several achieving perfect 100% compliance scores.
Health Inspector Ke conducted routine inspections across more than a dozen establishments. Demerits were issued for issues ranging from minor cleaning oversights to equipment labeling and temperature control problems. Importantly, many violations were corrected on the spot.
Top Performers Earn Perfect Scores Several locations sailed through with zero demerits:
- Belle Brook Natural Beef (2639 Canyon) – 100% compliant.
- Wal-Mart Super Center Produce Department (4810 North Street) – 100% compliant.
- Be Blessed Tacos food truck (1626 North University) – 100% compliant, with all commissary paperwork, log books and receipts also current.
Low-Level Issues at Chain Restaurants and Lodging
- Comfort Inn Suites (3429 South Street) – 1 demerit: One milk product discarded and corrected on site.
- Taco Bell South Street (3805 South Street) – 1 demerit: Dust and debris under dining benches and near ceiling vents.
- Chipotle (2111 North Street) – 2 demerits: Four spatulas discarded (corrected on site); damaged ceiling tiles and excess dust noted.
- Buffalo Wild Wings (3521 North Street) – 2 demerits: One spatula needed recleaning and resanitizing (corrected on site); proper hair restraint required.

Wal-Mart Super Center (4810 North Street) Departments Show Varied Results The massive North Street location saw multiple department inspections:

- Bakery Department – 1 demerit: Several damaged floor areas.
- Deli & Grill – 4 demerits: One pre-packaged item discarded (corrected on site); walls and floors needed better sanitation.
- Dairy Department – 1 demerit: Egg spillage at base of cooler cleaned on site.
- Meat Market Department – 1 demerit: Cooler base areas needed wiping and sanitizing.
- Produce Department – 0 demerits (perfect score).
School Cafeterias and Food Trucks
- Nacogdoches High School Cafeteria (NISD) (4310 Appleby Sand Road) – 1 demerit: One missing ceiling tile and damaged wall area.
- Nacogdoches High School 9th Grade Cafeteria (NISD) – 3 demerits: Missing ceiling tile; one canned food product discarded (corrected on site).
- La Fresca de Michoacana Food Truck (2013 North Street) – 10 demerits (highest this week): Missing test strips; thermometers not visible or accurate in coolers/freezers; handwash sink not kept empty; one spatula discarded (corrected on site); hair restraint and spill cleanup issues. Commissary paperwork and logs were current and compliant.
Overall, inspectors noted that the majority of violations involved easily fixable items such as immediate discards of spoiled or mislabeled products and minor cleaning tasks. No establishments were closed, and most operators addressed issues during the visit.
