The Inspection Services Department carries out the general health & safety inspections of occupancies requiring a health permit within the jurisdiction of the City of Nacogdoches. The primary function of the Health Inspector is the interpretation, inspection and field compliance efforts of the technical codes and laws. These codes and laws are Federal, State and Local. In addition the Health Inspector with support from the Inspection Services Department carries out the responsibility of data entry, account billing and record keeping.

Health Inspections Reveal Minor Violations Across Local Businesses
NACOGDOCHES, TX — A series of routine health inspections conducted the week of October 14, 2025, revealed minor violations at several food establishments and retail locations across the city. Inspector Ke’ led the evaluations, which resulted in demerits ranging from 1 to 9, with most issues corrected on site.
Notable Inspection Results:
- El Ranchero (123 King Street) received the highest number of demerits (9), citing issues such as unsanitary equipment, water-damaged ceiling tiles, and missing use-by dates on shrimp.
- Flashback Café (109 Wettermark) was cited for 7 demerits, including improper storage of food and cleaning supplies, and a damaged wall in the men’s restroom.
- Brookshire Brothers South Street Location had multiple departments inspected:
- Meat Market: 5 demerits for improper thermometer use and spilled liquids.
- Bakery & Deli: 4 demerits for cleanliness and damaged flooring.
- Main Store: 4 demerits including discarded canned goods and trash near the building.
- Dairy and Produce departments each received 2 demerits for minor infractions.
- Dollar Tree (1122 N. University Dr.) was cited for 3 demerits, including expired food and facility damage.
- Donut Palace (1511 N. University Dr.) received 2 demerits for unclean vents and full trash cans.
- Be Blessed BBQ Food Truck (123 E. Austin) earned just 1 demerit for a missing hair restraint. All paperwork and logs were found compliant.
- McMichael Middle School Cafeteria (4330 SE Stallings Dr.) also received 1 demerit for dusty vents.
Most violations were minor and corrected during inspection. No closures or major health threats were reported.
