The annual Historic Skills Fair at Durst-Taylor, the Loblolly Model Train Display, Veterans Day Open House, and the new Homeschool Hop promotion in collaboration with Lufkin and Nacogdoches museums. Historic Skills Fair – Saturday, November 1, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Durst-Taylor Historic House and Gardens, 304 North Street Step back into the 1800s at the Historic Skills Fair, where guests can watch live demonstrations of traditional trades and crafts that shaped early Nacogdoches life. From blacksmithing and weaving to food preservation, demonstrators will share their knowledge of the skills that sustained early Texas families. Children are invited to take part in hands-on activities and explore the historic gardens. Admission is free. Homeschool Hop – Friday, November 7 Nacogdoches and Lufkin Museums are partnering to host a Homeschool Hop day, a special event for homeschool families to explore educational resources across both communities. ● Lufkin’s Homeschool Hop Day: Monday, November 3 ● Nacogdoches’ Homeschool Hop Day: Friday, November 7 Participating Nacogdoches sites will include the Durst-Taylor Historic House, Nacogdoches Railroad Depot, Stone Fort Museum, Old University Building, Millard’s Crossing Historic Village, the Fire Museum, and the Nacogdoches Public Library. Loblolly Model Train Display Veterans Day Open House Friday & Saturday November 7th & 8th Nacogdoches Railroad Depot, 101 Old Tyler Road The beloved Loblolly Model Train Display returns to the historic Nacogdoches Railroad Depot for a special Veterans Day Open House weekend. This year’s display will honor the 80th anniversary of the capture of Iwo Jima, a significant turning point in World War II. The exhibit will feature a military-themed layout recognizing the courage and sacrifice of those who served, as well as the essential role of railroads in supporting wartime logistics and transportation. Visitors can enjoy the intricate model train setups, meet the Loblolly Crew, and learn about how the railroad shaped Nacogdoches’ growth and connected communities across the nation. Admission is free. Following the open house, the annual Loblolly Model Train Display will return for its holiday season exhibition, opening Friday after Thanksgiving and running for three consecutive weekends.
