DPS Troopers investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash that occurred yesterday, July 12, 2023, on U.S. highway 59, approximately three miles south of Garrison.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates at approximately 10:10 p.m., a 2018 Dodge SUV was traveling north and for unknown reasons drove over into the southbound lanes and struck a 2006 Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer head-on. After the initial collision the Peterbilt caught fire and burned.

The driver of the commercial vehicle is identified as Titus Jackson, 46, from Coushatta, LA was transported to Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches for treatment.

The driver of the Dodge was transported to a Tyler hospital for treatment.  A passenger in the Dodge was ejected during the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by a Nacogdoches County Justice of the Peace. The identities of the driver and passenger are not immediately available as investigators work to notify the next of kin.
