Doris Dees Shoemaker, aged 92, passed away peacefully on August 11th, 2026.
She was born in Kyle, Texas, on May 9th, 1934, to her loving parents, Ardmore D. and Iris Sparks Dees. Doris was a woman of deep devotion, sharing 53 beautiful years of marriage with her husband, Harold Shoemaker, before his passing in 2015.
An exceptionally talented artisan, Doris loved to crochet and quilt. Her remarkable skill was recognized on a grand stage when a quilt featuring her intricate quilting work won “Best in Class” at the prestigious Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Doris also leaves behind an enduring legacy of community service. She was the very last living charter member of the Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, a group to which she selflessly dedicated 35 years of volunteer service, comforting and helping countless families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ardmore and Iris Dees; her beloved husband, Harold Shoemaker; her son, Norman Shoemaker; and her siblings, Ralph Dees, Ira Dees, Alfred Dees, Geneva Wolff, and James Carrol Dees.
Her survivors include her children, Reeva Louise Brumley and husband Bruce of Lufkin, Clayton Thomas Shoemaker and wife Perri Ann of Boerne, David Duane Shoemaker of Nacogdoches, and Donald Lewis Shoemaker and wife Marcie of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Jay Shoemaker, Sandy Isget, Lance Brumley, Amber Brumley, Katherine Shoemaker, Ellen Meckel, Austin Shoemaker, Dustin Shoemaker, and Devin Shoemaker; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 18th, 2026, at Cason Monk-Metcalf’s Sunset Chapel, 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches. A short funeral service celebrating her life will follow immediately at 11:00 AM with Bro. Todd Muckleroy officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 5127 North Street in Nacogdoches.
Pallbearers: Lance Brumley, Katherine Shoemaker, Ellen Meckel, Austin Shoemaker, Dustin Shoemaker, and Devin Shoemaker.
