Mrs. Burgess passed away Friday, October 16, 2026 in Nacogdoches, Texas at the age of 90. She was born April 13,1936 in Hamlin, Texas to Walter and Pearl Meeks.
Laverne was a past member of Crestview Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Hideaway Lake Community Church. She was also a part of the Mercy Ship Ministries alongside her late husband.
Laverne’s Passions and Hobbies: She loved teaching Sunday School to the small children at church, and being campfire girls’ leader. She also loved reading, sewing, quilting, cooking, painting, embroidery, and gardening.
Laverne is survived by her loving family, daughter, Lagena Carver and husband, Gary Carver; grandchildren, James and wife, Leigh Anne Carver and Casey and wife, Amy Kay Carver, and great – grandchildren Spencer Max, Birdie Mae, and Finley Oliver Carver.
