DELAYNA ADAMS PLACES THIRD IN HEADLINE WRITING AT STATE ACADEMIC UIL

Nacogdoches High School sophomore DeLayna Adams won a bronze medal May 17 in headline writing at the state Academic UIL competition at the University of Texas in Austin.

DeLayna and sophomore Mark Sifuentes (who qualified for state as an alternate after finishing fourth at the regional competition) are the first NHS journalism team members to qualify for state. Overall, NHS finished 13th in Austin.

“I’m super proud of my journalism students this year,” said NHS advisor Rebecca Jaramillo, who completed her second year coaching the journalism team. “DeLayna is probably the most coachable student I have ever worked with. She’s amazing.  She works hard, asks for extra practice assignments, takes in all of my feedback, and works hard to improve each and every time she competes.”
