Pat Barnhill passed away on January 17, 2024. He was born on June 18, 1933 in Paragould, Arkansas. He graduated with a degree in Agricultural Economics from Arkansas State University and spent his career in the poultry equipment and vaccine business. He was the oldest son of Carl and Laneal Barnhill. He had four brothers and one sister: Charles, Dan, Fred, and Darrel Barnhill and Ann Carol Boster.
Pat Barnhill and his wife, Sue Newton Barnhill, were married for 65 years, and she predeceased him. They met at South Flint Tabernacle in the early 1950’s when Pat would travel from northeast Arkansas to Flint, Michigan to work at the Buick Motor Division plant during his summer breaks from Arkansas State University in order to make money to pay for college. After dating a couple of summers, they were married on February 12, 1955 while Pat was in basic training with the U. S. Army in San Antonio, Texas. Pat was then stationed at Fort Kobbe in the Panama Canal Zone where Sue cruised by ship to join him. They resided in Panama for 18 months and always had such wonderful memories of their time in Panama. They then moved to Paragould, Arkansas; Asheville, North Carolina; Columbia, South Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia; back to Paragould, Arkansas; then to Canton, Georgia and Birmingham, Alabama before settling in Nacogdoches, Texas in 1972 where he remained for the rest of his life. In 1973, Pat and his brothers started Barnhill Poultry Supply. Pat built his company in Texas with locations in Nacogdoches, Pittsburg, Gonzales, and Franklin, Texas. He also did quite a bit of business with customers in Mexico and developed several life-long friendships with his customers, employees and others working in the poultry industry throughout Texas and Mexico. He always wanted the best for his employees that worked alongside him, and when an employee had the opportunity for a bigger or better job, he helped them however he could and referred to them as his “graduates”.
Pat Barnhill was a long-time member of Eastview United Pentecostal Church. He was a caring father to his three sons: Patrick (“Rock”), David, and Jeff (“Marty”) Barnhill. He was most proud of his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with them. He was known for his wisdom and kindness and giving spirit, and it was often said that he was a humble man who had the patience of Job. He loved Southern Gospel Quartet music and the study of the Word of God, often giving his family Bible study lessons throughout the years.
Pat Barnhill was survived by son Rock Barnhill and wife Stephanie, son David Barnhill, son Marty Barnhill and wife Demesa. His grandchildren are Kara Oswalt, Cason Barnhill, Hannah Clevenger, Jacob Barnhill, Tia McCoy, Sarah Zenobia, and Grace Tichy. He also had nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Cason Barnhill, Jacob Barnhill, Jonathan McCoy, Evan Zenobia, Clarke Tichy, Steve Williams, and Michael Braswell.
