Obituary

Memorial Services for Blake Holmes, 19 of Nacogdoches will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Laird Funeral Home.

Blake Holmes, age 19, was born to Tracey Smith Holmes and Terry Holmes on November 4, 2004, and died unexpectedly on August 31, 2024, in Nacogdoches, TX. He was a graduate of Texas Virtual Academy at Hallsville and had just begun his career with BK Paving in San Antonio, TX in April 2024.

Although he is gone too soon, Blake impacted many people in his short time with us. He was not the loudest or the center of attention, but more the quiet guy just soaking up all that was going on around him. He couldn’t help but show his huge heart to everyone who knew him by always being there when anyone needed him.  He stood strong in what he believed and was not swayed by pressures to conform. He wore what he wanted, kept his curly hair too long at times, but never apologized for being himself. He was a simple, sweet, genuine young man who (in his own words) loved his Xbox, his truck, his friends, his brothers, his family, and especially his momma.

As a young boy, Blake began his life-long obsession with gaming when his dad bought him his first Xbox. He could not wait to get the new edition of NBA 2K every year for his birthday from his Nanna and he played even after Momma told him to get to bed. As he grew, he expanded his gaming and longed to do that as his occupation. As he grew older, he fell in love with basketball, fishing, shooting guns, and eventually trucks, especially his prized 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. It was loud and he was proud.

Throughout his teenage years, Blake grew a brotherhood with most friends, but there were a few that stood the test of time. His ‘brothers’ include Konher Osteen, of San Antonio; Daniel Davis and Buddy Worsham, both of Martinsville; Kaden Hand, of Woden; Michael Anderson, Tristan Andrews, and Jabbar Keggler, all of Nacogdoches, along with his cousins, Roman, Zach, and JJ and his brother’s-in-law, Dawson and Caleb.  Whether they were together every day or had not spoken for months, they were always his family, and we are forever thankful for each of them.

The family would like to give a huge thank you to Maxine Stevens (Mamaw), Blake’s maternal great grandmother. After a lengthy illness, Maxine held on until 10:15pm Friday, August 30, 2024, when she passed away at the home of her daughter, Beth Smith (Nanna). We honestly believe that she waited knowing that a few hours later Blake would be joining her, and she would need to take his hand on their walk to glory. She cared fiercely for her family in life, and she cared for Blake in death. For that, we will be forever grateful.

Blake was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ernie Smith, and his aunt, Cassie Meamber.

Blake leaves behind his mother and father: Tracey and Terry Holmes of Nacogdoches; grandmothers: Beth Smith and Roberta Meamber, both of Nacogdoches; uncles: Todd Smith, & wife, Tiffanie, of Nacogdoches; Joe Knight, & wife Angela, of Huntington; Joey Meamber, & wife Stephanie, of Nacogdoches; sisters: Kaylee Smith, & partner Dawson Junek, of Garrison; Blaine Holmes, & partner Caleb Cavin, of Nacogdoches; cousins: Jazmin Mendez, & daughter Kaliah, of Nacogdoches; JJ Mendez, of Martinsville; Morgan & Jaycie Jones, of Nacogdoches; Morgan Smith, of Hallsville; Brailynn & Jaxon Smith, of Coushatta, LA; Tyler, Roman, & Savannah Knight, of Huntington; Cade, Zach, Kylie, & Serenity Meamber, of Nacogdoches; Skyler Simpson, of Nacogdoches.

No matter that his time here was short, he left a lasting impression on us all. We will never understand why the good ones go first, but we will never forget the love that he showed each of us while he was here.

Please join us in celebrating his life at 4pm, Friday, September 13, 2024.
