Betty “BR” Ruth (Wingo) Murphy, age 84, of White Oak, Texas passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025 in White Oak, TX. Betty was born in Manila, Arkansas to Willie and Lallie Wingo.
Betty received her education in the Karnack public schools. She worked for Soutnwestern Bell / ATT as a dispatcher and retired in 1992 with 23 years.
Betty was affectionately known to her family as Nana and friends as B.R. She never met a stranger always talking, laughing, and singing. She loved her family, singing, and Elvis Presley. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Betty was preceded in death by the love of her life, Jerry Murphy; son, Donny Ray Craver; sisters, Ruby, Ethel, Lillie and Barbara; brothers, Kenneth, Floyd, Alvin, Cecil and Danny; her watchdogs, Lady and Lucy.
She is survived by her sister, Martha Kelley; daughter, Karen and husband Davis; son, Billy and wife Barbara; grandchildren, Larry, Jerred and wife Shelley, Lallie, Alicia, Jennifer and husband Cristian; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Hallie, Harley, Gracie, Willow, Gaven, Jake, Emma, Bethany, Emi, Allison and Rosie; great great-grandchildren, Jameson, Benjamin and RJ.
A visitation for Betty will be held Monday, February 3, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North Street, Nacogdoches, TX 75965, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Rev. Robert Jerred Wingo officiating. Interment will follow at Old North Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Down Syndrome Association or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
