Obituary

Becky Alexander McKernan, 73, passed away September 9, 2022. She was born in Nacogdoches, Texas to Gwen and Jerry R. Alexander, both deceased, on January 17, 1949. Becky is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Anne McKernan, of Marietta, GA; her son, John B. McKernan II (Tracy Cocquyt-McKernan) and grandson Trey of Roswell, GA; her brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Jan Alexander of Nacogdoches; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Becky spent more than 50 years living in Mountain Brook, Tuscaloosa and Jasper, Alabama before retiring from her longtime job as office manager of Dabbs and Hyland Pediatrics and moving back to her hometown in the fall of 2021. Her family had never seen her happier than she was this past year, meeting Jan and Jerry for dinners at local restaurants, joining Grace Bible Church and being an active member of her small group, and spending time with her cherished friends.

Our favorite memories of Becky include when she joined John and Tracy at Talladega Motor Speedway and went for a few laps as a passenger with a professional driver; celebrating her 60th and Trey’s first birthday at the beach; many trips, including Highlands, NC and Charleston with Elizabeth; cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide at Bryant Denny Stadium.

She’ll be remembered for her generous heart, supportive, caring spirit, kindness and dedication to her family and church.

A small graveside service will be held 10am Saturday, September 17, at Sunset Memorial Park Nacogdoches. A celebration of life will follow at Grace Bible Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org or Grace Bible Church Nacogdoches, TX.
