Avery VanSickle Breaks the Record for the Most Three-Pointers in a Single Game as Ladyjacks Win by 80

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women’s basketball team (11-2, 1-1 SLC) returned home after a 40-day road trip as they welcomed Texas A&M-San Antonio (10-4, 7-4 RRAC) to the Sawmill.

SFA jumped out to an 8-2 run with 7:36 left in the first quarter. A minute later, Harmanie Dominguez hit back-to-back threes that extended the ‘Jacks lead, 14-6. SFA then went on a seven-point run with five from Faith Blackstone and two from Ashlyn Traylor-Walker, 21-6. The Ladyjacks finished the quarter out on a 13-2 run with threes from Avery VanSickle, Dominguez and Blackstone. SFA made six three-pointers in the first quarter and took a 34-10 lead into the second quarter.

The Ladyjack offense continued their hot streak with an 8-0 run throughout the first half of the second quarter, 42-10. TAMUSA scored a layup before SFA went on a 7-0 run thanks to Blackstone and VanSickle, 49-12. TAMUSA scored the final six points of the second quarter, but the ‘Jacks went into halftime with a commanding 49-18 lead.

Traylor-Walker and VanSickle combined for five points to begin the third quarter to extend the SFA lead to 54-18. With eight minutes left, the ‘Jacks went on another 15-2 run to take a 71-24 lead. Key Roseby got in on the three-point scoring with a three-pointer to give the ‘Jacks a 74-27 lead with 3:06 left in the third. VanSickle finished off the third quarter with a jumper and SFA took a 50-point lead into the fourth quarter, 81-31.

TAMUSA scored the first basket of the fourth quarter but SFA’s offense went on an incredible 32-point run to finish off the game. VanSickle hit back-to-back threes with two minutes left in the game which gave her nine three-pointers and broke the record for the most three-pointers made in a single game in SFA history. VanSickle’s eighth three-pointer also broke the team record for the most threes made in a single game that the team set in the first game of the season against Texas Southern. The Ladyjacks finished with 20 made three-pointers against TAMUSA in a dominate 113-33 win.
