79 Years Old
Dr. Anthony Robert Vandrovec, 79, passed away on November 7, 2023 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on May 24, 1944 in Valley City.
Anthony Robert “Bob” Vandrovec III died on November 7, 2023. Bob was born in Valley City, North Dakota, May 24, 1944, to Anton “Tony” Jerome and Irene (Jorgenson) Vandrovec. He was one of eight children. Bob earned his undergraduate degree from St. John’s University in Minnesota and his medical degree from the University of North Dakota (first two years) and the University of Texas at San Antonio (last two years). After an internship in Ohio and residency in Galveston, Texas, Bob settled in Nacogdoches with his family and modernized the radiology program at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.
Bob married the love of his life, Marlys Vandrovec on June 4, 1968. Their children were Bob’s greatest source of pride. In addition to his work as a physician, Bob was an avid cook (volunteering to make gumbo for the hospital’s Cajun party every year), jokester (planting fake snakes for unsuspecting children), and tinkerer (Bob had a great mind for home improvements and was always plotting his next big project). He also loved playing any game that could be wagered upon—namely dominos (42) and cards.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marlys, and their four children and their families. Jessica Aheron MD, husband Lee, and their children Collin and Connor; Anthony Robert “Bob” IV, his wife Stacey, and their children Anthony Robert “Bobby” V and Loren; Marcus; and Holly and her husband Tim Roper.
