Amy was born December 8, 1972 in Nacogdoches, Texas. After living in several other cities, she passed away back in Nacogdoches along with her two sons, William and John, and her dog, Turbo.
She graduated from Lufkin High School and then traveled to Eastborn, England as a Rotary exchange student. She graduated from Texas A&M before attending graduate school at LSU, receiving both a master’s degree and a PhD in Sociology.
Amy and Brett Kirk married December 18, 1999. They had just celebrated their 25th anniversary before her passing.
Amy had a career in teaching at Lone Star Community College, Sam Houston University, and the University of Pittsburgh. In the Fall of 2024, she was honored as an outstanding teacher at PITT.
Volunteer work included the Houston Food Bank, Christian Women’s Job Corp and board member of the Sewickley Public Library. Through her church, she took her children on mission trips to South Texas and Tennessee.
Amy’s greatest delight was her husband Brett, as together they raised three beautiful children. They provided opportunities, encouraged, and celebrated with them. They traveled extensively on family trips in the States and abroad.
Amy was a member of the Church of Christ in the various areas of the country where the family lived and was currently visiting churches in the area as part of their transition to living in Nacogdoches full-time.
Amy is predeceased by her father Leon Manning. She is survived by her husband Brett Kirk, daughter Eliza Kirk, mother Nancy Manning, brother Jim Manning and in-laws Betty and Bill Kirk. Brother in-law and sister in-law Trent and Kim Kirk, nieces Leah and Ali Kirk.

Amy was passionate about serving at the organization, where she mentored and volunteered. They provide hope to women by helping them with life skills in a Christ-centered environment.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 2:00 PM at Timberland Drive church of Christ, 912 South Timberland Drive, Lufkin, TX 75901. Friends and family are invited to a visitation and reception at the Museum of East Texas, beginning at 3:30PM, 503 N Second Street, Lufkin, Texas.
