Alex Rodgers and Cole Hill Go Deep in Game 2 against Kansas State

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Kansas State defeated Stephen F. Austin 8-4 in game two of their season opening series. Kansas State moves to 2-0 as SFA falls to 0-2.

It was another high-scoring affair in the first few innings for both offenses, as both teams put up runs in the first two innings. After allowing one run off a RBI sacrifice fly, the Lumberjacks responded and one-upped the Wildcats by scoring two off a RBI single by Tom Biggs and a bases loaded hit-by-pitch by Nolan Brown. Both teams traded blows in the second inning, and put up one run on the board via home run. Cole Hill recorded the solo shot for ‘Jacks in the second inning. The Wildcats tied the game back up the next inning following a couple of singles and a RBI groundout.

The Wildcats finally took the lead in the sixth inning after driving a three-run homer to left center, making the score 6-3. Alex Rodgers decided to respond himself by roping a solo home run right over the left field wall near the foul pole. Rodger’s solo shot would be the last time the Lumberjacks put any runs on the board for the rest of the game, while K-State grew the lead after adding a solo home run shot in each the eighth and the ninth inning.

Peyton Parker had a big day at the plate today, going 4-for-5 and scoring one run. Rodgers and Biggs both went 2-for-5 today, each recording one RBI. Cade Stapleton was handed the loss today after going six innings and giving up six. Stapleton was although able to pick up seven strikeouts while on the mound. Conner Woods went two innings and gave up one, and Colton Castilaw pitched the ninth inning and let up one.
