Marolyn Thies Obituary

Services for Marolyn Jamail Thies, 93, of Palestine and Nacogdoches, will be held at 11:00 am Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nacogdoches, Texas with Father Matthew Stehling officiating.  Burial will be at 4:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Palestine, with Monsignor Zach Kunnakkattuthara officiating.

Marolyn died on Wednesday, May 13th, from natural causes.

Marolyn was born on April 22, 1933 in Houston, TX to A.F. and Marie Jamail, and was the youngest of ten children, all who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Incarnate Word Academy in Houston. She married her beloved husband, Lowell Thies, at the age of 20, and they lived in the Houston area where they raised their two daughters, Marie and Louise. Marolyn was a stay-at-home mother who was involved in many volunteer activities with her church and community, including St. Jerome’s school room mother for many years, St. Vincent de Paul Society and food bank. When her daughters started high school, she began working at various secretarial jobs, including Holy Name Retreat Center. When her husband Lowell retired, they moved to Palestine, where she continued her volunteer work at Sacred Heart Catholic church in the food pantry, visiting nursing homes, and the church office.

The joy of Marolyn’s life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who called her GG. She loved cooking for her family, sewing Halloween costumes or prom dresses or stuffed animals, and pretending not to know where the grandkids were hiding during their many games of hide and seek. She never missed a birthday party or graduation, and her love knew no bounds.

In addition to her siblings, Marolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Paul Thies, in 1996, and a grandson, Matthew Anthony Kelly in 1986.

Marolyn is survived by her daughters, Marie Kelly and husband Mike of Douglass, TX, and Louise Webb of Camdenton, MO.; Five grandchildren, Benjamin Webb and fiancé Tasha Daily, Amanda Kelly Walsh and husband Justin, Jacob Kelly and wife Ashli, Jesse Webb and wife Briana, and Luke Kelly; and seven great-grandchildren, Grace Walsh, Hailee Walsh, Logan Walsh, Skylar Webb, Elias Walsh, Wyatt Webb, and Elizah Kelly; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Mike Kelly, Jacob Kelly, Luke Kelly, Justin Walsh, Benjamin Webb, and Jesse Webb.

Her family would like to thank the many caregivers and physical therapists over the last 10 years from Magnolia Court and Meadowview assisted living centers, along with Jackie Thornton and the compassionate nursing staff of Harbor Hospice. A special thank you to Deacon David Darby who brought her Holy Communion every week, and Grace Stockwell for her constant encouragement when physical therapy seemed impossible.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
