John Sanches Obituary
Funeral services for John L. Sanches, 82, of Nacogdoches, will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Laird Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pirtle Cemetery in Cushing. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00pm to 2:00pm on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Laird Funeral Home. John passed away on April 13, 2026, in Nacogdoches. He was born on August 25, 1943, in Nacogdoches to the late Fred and Dollie (Arriola) Sanches.
“The angels are amongst an absolute legend today. My grandfather taught me how to tie my shoes, how to drive a tractor, gave me my first sip of beer, and did his best to convince me that I shouldn’t ride the dog like it’s a small horse (I didn’t listen).
He was a steady presence, the picture of strength, and quiet kindness. He listened more than he spoke, and when he had something to say, it mattered. And I will hold tight to the sound of his sweet, East Texas southern drawl.
I am extraordinarily grateful to have spent so much time with him. So many memories to cherish, rodeos and county fairs, Nacogdoches mud bogs, sweet sun teas, afternoons sitting under the post oak trees, and his unfortunate preference for Chevys over Fords.
We will watch over his bride of 60 years, we’ll cheer for the Cowboys and tell each other, “this is our year”, while he sits peacefully on the front porch swing at the gates of Heaven.” – Candice Nichole Curry
Left to cherish John’s memory are his loving wife, Martha “Beth” Elizabeth (Barnhart) Sanches; sons, Don “Gopher” Curry and wife, Doris, and Kevin Sanches; grandchildren, Kaden Sanches, Candice Curry, Holly Rosato and husband, Kevin, Courtney Amyx and husband, Jim, Jennifer Rodriguez and husband, Markos, Whitney Ivy and husband, Tony, and Shelby Ivy; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Donna Kay Perry, Nancy Smith, Judy Cox, Frances Faires and husband, David, and Linda Broadway and husband, H.B.; and brother, Allen Sanches; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his son, Carol Moore; parents, Fred and Dollie Sanches; sisters, Lottie Collins, Emma Sanches, Shirley Davis, and Mary Frances Sanches.
