Nacogdoches Historic Sites invites families and visitors to enjoy a full season of fall programming with opportunities to learn, explore, and experience the past.

Thursdays in the Garden is a free program that introduces young visitors to life on an early Nacogdoches homestead through gardening, crafts, games, and other activities. Families can take part in Thursdays in the Garden every other Thursday at 10:00am at the Durst-Taylor House at 304 North St.

The Historic Skills Fair returns to the Durst-Taylor Historic House and Gardens on Saturday, November 7. Visitors can watch the site’s sugar cane mill in action as demonstrators process cane using traditional methods, along with demonstrations of other skills and trades from the past. Previous fairs have included blacksmithing, spinning, weaving, food preservation, traditional music, and more.

There are still a few openings for historic demonstrations. Information and sign-up forms for those interested in sharing a craft or skill can be found at nactx.us/historicsites.

The Nacogdoches Railroad Depot will be open Friday, November 6, through Sunday, November 8, for the annual Veterans Day Loblolly Model Train Display. Created by longtime model train enthusiast George Ellis, the display features Lionel trains traveling through detailed miniature scenes, with military-themed elements incorporated throughout in recognition of Veterans Day.

These programs are free and open to the public and are part of Nacogdoches Historic Sites’ ongoing efforts to provide engaging ways for the community to discover local history.
