Pollinator Palooza & Bioblitz 2026

Get ready for the ultimate celebration of nature right here in Nacogdoches! Join us for Pollinator Palooza & BioBlitz 2026 at the SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center on Friday, October 16, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

We are bringing the community together for an unforgettable, family-friendly night packed with hands-on activities, citizen science, and local flavor.

Here is a look at what we have lined up:

• The Monarch Release Ceremony: Sponsor a butterfly and join our massive coordinated group release at 6:30 PM!

• Interactive Fun: Step into the Butterfly Interaction Tent, visit the Caterpillar Petting Zoo, or release ladybugs at Ladybug Lagoon.

• Local Market & Eats: Shop from awesome local vendors, grab a bite from food trucks like Swirl & Swig, and enjoy live music from local bands.

• The Great Scavenger Hunt: Complete the festival-wide challenge to win a limited-edition Pollinator Palooza prize!

Mark your calendars, bring the family, and learn about pollinators!

Wild About Science Oct. 29 – 30

Teachers are invited to register their 3-5 grade classes for the Wild About Science event at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center on Oct. 29 and 30. This annual youth educational program is a collaboration of the SFA Gardens, Department of Education Studies in the James I. Perkins College of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences and the Texas Forestry Association.

SFA education majors will host three 40-minute, nature-based, TEKS-aligned educational activities in which young students explore their natural environment. Teachers may attend the 9 to 11 am session or the 11:30 am to 1:30 pm session on either day.

For more information, contact Kay Jenkins, SFA Gardens environmental education programs coordinator, at (936) 468-1832 or kay.jenkins@sfasu.edu.

Teachers can register their classes by visiting gosfa.com/gardens-was. The cost is $5 per student.

Sculpture in the SFA Gardens

The Ruby M. Mize azalea garden is full of new sculptures this year from the first ever “Sculpture in the SFA Gardens” exhibit.

Our fundraising campaign is going on now to raise money to bring in and install the works of 10 sculptures from the Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma area. We are looking for supporters of art in the gardens! To give, visit www.sfasu.edu/gardens/explore/sculpture
