Memorial Service for Mildred Sue Case, 84, of Garrison will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at Garrison Funeral Home with Bro. Shak Arrington officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1:00 pm.
Ms. Case passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026 in Center. She was born on August 15, 1942 in Nacogdoches.
Although our lives do not always go the way we plan, our strength shows through how we handle every situation and the life we make for ourselves. Mildred did just that. She was a woman of great value and integrity and never failed to make her own way. She found joy in the life of her daughter Vickie and when she lost her at an early age to a battle with cancer, she was devastated. However, she picked herself up and carried on, knowing she would see her again one day. Mildred found great solace in the companionship of her niece and she cherished Michelle with her entire being. Michelle filled a void in Mildred’s heart and the dedication, compassion and friendship she had for Mildred was astounding. She was her best friend, caregiver, traveling partner and the support that Mildred needed. Through the years, Mildred enjoyed many times with Michelle, Debra and Wayne and she treasured every moment with them. She was funny, at times, and always enjoyed a good laugh. She loved hard and supported those who stood by her side. Even in her last days, she found the strength to smile and never gave up on the reality that her life had been blessed in many ways.
Mildred was born and raised in Garrison, where she called home for many years. She worked her chicken houses and at Bealls and Wal Mart, where she retired after almost 25 years. She enjoyed canning and gardening and meeting with the family every Sunday after church for their weekly dinner. And you can bet, she was gonna check out all the food and make sure it was good. And if it “needed something” she was sure to tell you! Mildred would argue that no one could make deviled eggs like she did and her chicken and dressing were the best around. She began collecting roosters and frogs and every trip she went on, at least one little trinket would have to come home with her. Her sense of adventure became evident when Michelle began taking her places she had never been to. Mildred was able to experience things like floating the Guadalupe River, amusement rides at Six Flags and was even able to enjoy a cruise in the Caribbean. The memories will last many years with lots of laughs and talks about the good things that Mildred brought to the lives of those she was surrounded with and one day, she and Vickie will greet everyone when they join them in the paradise that they are now experiencing.
Mildred is survived by Michelle Owens & husband Woo; siblings, Wayne Curbow & wife Debra, Raymond Curbow & wife Betty and Margie Smith & husband Butch, along with other family members and numerous friends who will miss her terribly.
She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter Vickie Case Griffin; long-time best friend Frankie Edgmon and parents Fred & Iretha Bell Curbow.
