Below is a description of the work planned for Aug. 31 through Sept. 4 in the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Lufkin District.
Project timelines are subject to change due to weather conditions and material availability.
At 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, Angelina Beautiful/Clean will host its quarterly Adopt-a-Highway clean up. Volunteers will meet at 1615 S. Chestnut Street in Lufkin. This is an excellent chance for service organizations to get volunteer hours and help beautify our communities.
Lufkin District Construction Updates
Nacogdoches Area Office
(Nacogdoches, San Augustine, and Shelby counties)
Nacogdoches County Construction Projects
- US 59, intersection improvements at SL 224.Bridge work near SH 7 will continue.
- BU 59, SH/BS 7, SH/BS 21 and FM 2259 stripingNight-time lane closures are possible as manhole repairs occur.
Nacogdoches County Maintenance Projects
Crews will seal coat FM 1087. Sign maintenance, herbicide application, and patch work will occur in various locations in the county.
Sabine County construction projects
- US 96, road rehabilitationSeal coating operations will require daily lane closures.
Sabine County maintenance projects
Sign, herbicide and patch work will occur at various locations in the county. Crews will follow up on work on SH 87, SH 21 and FM 103.
San Augustine County maintenance projects
Base-repair work on FM 226 will require traffic to follow a pilot car. Crews will also perform sign maintenance and apply herbicide in various locations.
Shelby County construction projects
- FM 139, bridge maintenanceRiprap will be installed at the Tenaha Bayou bridge.
Shelby County maintenance projects
Patching, herbicide application, and road sweeping is planned at various locations in the county.
Lufkin Area Office (Angelina, Houston, and Sabine counties)
Angelina County construction projects
- US 59, Redland Project.Bridge work will occur during the day while paving will take place at night.
- Business (BU) 59/First Street, resurfacing and stripingStriping, line and symbol painting will occur. This will be a mobile operation and drivers should stay alert for workers when traveling.
- Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 324, bridge replacement and roadway rehabilitation.Dirt work and work on bridge components is planned. With equipment entering and exiting the road, drivers should expect intermittent lane closures. Traffic lights and pilot cars will be used to direct traffic.
- State Loop (SL) 287, auxiliary and turn lanes.The contractor will be seeding, striping, and working on roadway lighting. The work will require daily lane closures.
Angelina County maintenance projects
Sign maintenance and pothole patching will occur at various locations in the county. Herbicide will be applied along US 59. Culvert work will occur on FM 3373/Mollywood Road. A flagger will be present to direct traffic.
Houston County construction projects
- SL 304, overlay.Slope and shoulder work will continue, requiring intermittent lane closures. Traffic will need to follow a pilot car near the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge where concrete work will take place.
- FM 2076, rehabilitation and roadway widening.Ditch and concrete work for drainage structures will occur. Traffic will continue to follow a pilot car and flaggers in the work zone.
Houston County maintenance projects
Sign maintenance, road patch work and herbicide application is scheduled. Spot overlay work on FM 2110 is planned for Tuesday through Thursday.
Livingston Area Office (Polk, San Jacinto, and Trinity counties)
Polk/San Jacinto County construction projects
- US 59, cable median barrier. The contractor will level in some areas and repair concrete and fencing damaged in traffic crashes near Goodrich.
Polk County construction projects
- US 59, Corrigan Relief Route.Overhang work will occur on the north railroad bridge. Crews will install deck panels and prepare forms for another part of the bridge. Concrete work is planned on the southbound main lanes. At US 287, work will include milling at the southbound exit, bond-breaker application and the removal of barriers ahead of traffic switches. Crews will continue shoulder work, culvert construction, concrete work on bridge decks and painting pavement markings.
- US/BU 59, Diboll and norther Polk County mill and inlayContractors will continue removing asphalt and concrete to repair cracks.
- US 59, Morgan Creek bridge maintenanceRiprap will be installed beneath the bridge.
- County-road bridge projects.
- Piney Creek on Carmona Road: bridge forms will be tied and set.
- Long King Creek on Old Bearing Road: crews will remove old forms and work on the footing for a headwall.
Polk County maintenance projects
Sign work, herbicide application and patching operations will occur at various locations on US 59, US 259, US 190, FM 350 and US 287.
San Jacinto County construction projects
- US 59, Shepherd to Cleveland upgrade to interstate standards.Crews will work on bridge columns, caps and decking at Red Road, and perform slab work at various locations. Rebar forms will be prepared for future northbound main-lane construction. Striping will be repainted throughout the project area.
- SH 156, Stephen Creek bridge replacement.Crews will demolish temporary construction forms and excavate areas for bridge structures.
San Jacinto County maintenance projects
Widening work on FM 946 is planned, along with sign maintenance and herbicide application.
Trinity County maintenance projects
Crews are scheduled to apply herbicide on US 287 and SH 94. Leveling operations will occur on FM 358 and FM 2781. Patchwork is planned at various locations.
Reminder to Motorists
Drivers are urged to remain alert in work zones, obey posted traffic controls, and watch for construction crews and equipment. Remember to move over or slow down to 20 mph below the posted speed limit when passing or approaching TxDOT vehicles, law enforcement, and other vehicles with activated overhead lights on the side of the road.
