Henry Thomas “Tommy” Koontz of Nacogdoches passed away on August 22, 2026, in Longview at the age of 77. He was born on July 31, 1949, in Peru, Indiana to parents Lloyd Koontz and Mary (Delivan) Koontz.
A graduate of Pearland High School, Tommy proudly served his country in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. He later served his community as a police officer with the Houston Police Department, retiring in 2005 after 30 years of faithful service.
Tommy was an active member of First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches. He had a servant’s heart, and his generosity was noticed by those around him. He had a deep love of his country and church. Some of his hobbies include collecting knives, going on cruises, and fishing.
Mr. Koontz was preceded in death by his parents; late wife, Susan Koontz; son, Lance Koontz; brother, Joseph Koontz; and sisters, Bonna Jean Driver and Judy Daily.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Koontz; daughter, Christy Foss and husband Stephen; grandchildren, Harley Koontz, Andrew Foss, Catherine Foss, Natalia Foss, and Noah Cooley; daughter-in-law, Davi Koontz; stepchildren, Dawn Bulfin and husband Ted and their children, Parker and Kennedy, and Kenny Taylor and wife Jenny and their children, Madelynn and Maddox; brother, Danny Koontz; brother-in-law, Rick Scarborough and wife Tommye; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches on August 31, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:30 pm officiated by Bro. Tom Webster and Pastor Dr. Noel Dear.
A Graveside service will take place at South Park Cemetery in Pearland, Texas on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.
