June in Nacogdoches has a way of bringing people together. From evenings spent outdoors to beloved annual traditions that fill the streets with energy and excitement, summer in the Oldest Town in Texas is all about celebrating community and making the most of the season. As the days grow longer and the pace slows just enough to savor it all, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy everything this month has to offer.
The 36th Annual Texas Blueberry Festival is almost here, and this year’s festivities begin with the return of a longtime favorite: the Blueberry Bluegrass Concert in the Park. Set for Friday, June 12th at Festival Park, this free, family-friendly evening promises incredible music, kids activities, and food truck eats. The night begins at 7 pm with Rose & The Bahia Boys, known for their beautiful vocal harmonies and talented banjo, dobro, mandolin, and guitar pickers that deliver a foot-tapping, hand-clapping good time. At 7:20 pm, Little Roy & Lizzy take the stage, featuring legendary banjo master and IBMA Hall of Honor inductee Little Roy Lewis alongside Billboard chart-topping multi-instrumentalist Lizzy Long. At 8:25 pm, Catch The Grassburs bring their signature blend of energy, harmony, and heart to the evening, followed by The Hunt Brothers at 8:45 pm, one of Oklahoma’s premier bluegrass ensembles, whose sound blends the rich traditions of bluegrass with hints of swing and country rock. Bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets, it’s sure to be a night to remember.
The excitement continues Saturday, June 13th, as the Texas Blueberry Festival officially takes over Downtown Nacogdoches. The day begins bright and early at 8 am with stacks of fresh blueberry pancakes, a longtime festival favorite that perfectly kicks off a full day of celebration. Returning this year is the Blueberry Festival of Quilts at Fredonia Hill Baptist Church, opening Friday, June 12th, and continuing through Saturday with stunning displays of craftsmanship and creativity. Throughout the weekend, festivalgoers can enjoy blueberry pie-eating contests, cupcake battles, Texas Folklife’s Blueberry Jam, live entertainment, shopping, and plenty of blueberry-themed treats around every corner. Wrap up the weekend on Sunday, June 14th, with Stone House Kitchen’s beloved Blueberry Brunch, then stop by the Fredonia Brewery Summer Makers Market, where local artists will showcase unique blueberry-inspired creations.
When the East Texas temperatures start to rise, Nacogdoches offers plenty of ways to cool off and enjoy the season. Families can spend the day racing down slides and splashing through adventure-filled attractions at Splash Kingdom Timber Falls, while local favorites like Splashadoches and the Temple Park Splash Pad offer easy ways to cool down close to town. For a more laid-back summer escape, pack up for a relaxing afternoon at Lake Nacogdoches or enjoy the natural spring-fed waters of Tonkawa Springs. Whether you’re seeking adventure or simply a place to unwind, there’s no shortage of ways to soak up summer in Nacogdoches.
And the fun doesn’t stop there. June is filled with opportunities to explore, celebrate, and make memories with family and friends throughout the community. To keep up with everything happening around town, visit www.visitnacogdoches.org. We can’t wait to see y’all around town this summer.
