John Gordon McClellan, age 88, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, in Nacogdoches.
John was born on August 13, 1937, in New London, Texas, to Dewey “Pard” McClellan and Lucy Ellen McClellan. He was raised with a strong foundation of faith, hard work, and dedication to family.
He attended Northwestern State University on a track scholarship. In 1962, John purchased what is now known as The Barbeque House in Nacogdoches, where he built a lasting legacy as a local business owner. Over the years, he was involved in several business ventures, reflecting his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to his community.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared 69 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Marian, and together they built a life centered on family. He was a steady and supportive presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren and took great pride in their accomplishments.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marian McClellan; his children, John McClellan, Jr. and wife Julie of Nacogdoches, Mike McClellan and wife Shannon of Nacogdoches, Cyndi Gibson and husband Mike of Spring, and Kaye Corley and husband Dewitt of Nacogdoches.
He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Brooke Ritchie and husband Chason; Jake McClellan and wife Emilie; Hunter McClellan and wife Elizabeth; Cole McClellan; Allie McClellan; Ryan McClellan; Katelyn Thomas and husband Garid; and Trace Corley.
He was blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Olivia, Austin, Saige, Sayler, John Gordon III “Tripp,” Mary Catherine, and Turner.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Dewey “Pard” McClellan and Lucy Ellen McClellan, and his sisters, Shirley McClellan Houston and husband Clyde Houston, and Jean Scarborough.
He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his work, and the legacy he leaves behind.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jake McClellan, Hunter McClellan, Cole McClellan, Ryan McClellan and Trace Corley.
