STATE REPRESENTATIVE JOANNE SHOFNER FILES HOUSE BILL 5503 TODESIGNATE INTERSTATE 35 AS PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP HIGHWAY INTRAVIS COUNTY, TEXAS

Austin, Texas – State Representative Joanne Shofner, endorsed by President Donald J. Trump, has filed House Bill 5503 to designate Interstate Highway 35 in Travis County, Texas, as the President Donald J. Trump Highway. This designation would be in addition to any existing highway naming. The proposed designation honors the 45th and now 47th President of the United States for his “big, beautiful” impact on the nation and the state of Texas. “I want to congratulate President Donald J. Trump on his return to the White House,” said Representative Shofner. “Under his leadership, America is once again respected, and the prosperity that Texas has long enjoyed will be reflected across the nation. It is fitting that this designation is located in our state’s capital, recognizing a president whose impact on Texas and the country is profound and enduring.” In his first two months in office, President Trump, with the help of Governor Abbott, has protected Texas’ southern border by finishing the wall, halting the invasion of illegal immigrants, and stopping human and drug trafficking, including deadly fentanyl. His selection of Elon Musk to head the DOGE team has led to extraordinary discoveries that will save American tax payers up to a trillion dollars. Secretary Robert F. Kennedy is remaking the entire American food system by removing harmful, cancer causing chemicals in our everyday food to Make America Healthy Again. With his return to the White House, President Trump is committed to continuing his work to Make America Great Again. Texas needs to lead in naming a major interstate, traversing through the greatest capitol of a former republic, after the greatest president of our time. If enacted, House Bill 5503 will take effect on September 1, 2025. Funding for the design, construction, and installation of highway markers will be sourced through grants or private donations, with future maintenance and replacement overseen by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
