NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas – A Lufkin man was charged with a second-degree felony during a traffic stop Monday night after deputies discovered a large quantity of methamphetamine in his vehicle. While patrolling in Etoile around 11:30 p.m., NCSO deputies noticed a 1999 Dodge Dakota swerve from the eastbound lane to the westbound lane of state Hwy. 103 near the intersection with FM 226, crossing
the center stripe. The vehicle’s modified license plate light also failed to illuminate the plate. As it crossed a bridge, the vehicle scraped the pavement, sending out a spay of sparks, at which point deputies initiated a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 35-year-old Westley Dorsett, was found to have a parole-violation warrant, and
deputies smelled marijuana while speaking to Dorsett and the passenger.
The passenger, who was not charged with an offense, told deputies she had smoked marijuana earlier that evening. In the truck’s bed, deputies discovered a fanny pack containing drug paraphernalia and a sunglasses case packed with two bags of methamphetamine weighing a combined total of 89 grams, or approximately 3.1 ounces. Dorsett was booked into the Nacogdoches County jail on a second-degree felony for possession of a controlled substance, while the passenger was released from the scene.
