With a $5,500 gift, the Nacogdoches County Healthcare Foundation is providing up to 25 respite weekends for Nacogdoches Treatment Center client families.

“Caring for a loved one living with dementia is a full-time responsibility, and our organization is honored to provide opportunities for qualified respite care,” said Nacogdoches County Healthcare Foundation Board President Sean Hightower. “Rest is a key factor in promoting physical and emotional health, and this program benefits all who are involved.”

The Nacogdoches County Healthcare Foundation’s annual giving campaign returns financial support directly to the Nacogdoches community. On Thursday, Oct. 26, the board voted to support the Nacogdoches Treatment Center with the $5,500 gift.

“We have done so much this year and were interested in reaching out to a new population,” said Ella Nobles, Operations Manager/Director of Foundation Services & Auxiliary Liaison. “Our board met to discuss area needs, and the Nacogdoches Treatment Center is a great fit.”

The Nacogdoches Treatment Center’s Respite Weekend Program allows families to take an occasional extended break from their caregiving duties. Caring for a loved one living with dementia is a full-time responsibility that can take a physical and emotional toll on a caregiver’s health.

“Caregiver support, like our safe and compassionate weekend respite program, is an extension of our mission to improve the quality of life for families dealing with dementia,” said Kathy Strong, Director of the Nacogdoches Treatment Center. “This gift will go a long way in helping us care for the caregivers.”
